The 'feline charm' of Istanbul and Chefchaouen
What has not yet been said about Istanbul, the multi-ethnic metropolis and cradle of cultures and millennial history? Nothing, or almost nothing. But few perhaps know that the pearl of the Bosporus is also home to more than 150,000 cats that roam freely and laze about in the alleys of the city, not ironically called 'Catsanbul'. You can meet them on practically every corner, passing by the colourful and chaotic Grand Bazaar, the central market or visiting places of worship such as the imposing Hagia Sophia and the splendid Blue Mosque. Similar and equally special is the experience one can have in Chefchaouen, one of the most evocative and picturesque cities in Morocco, already declared a Unesco heritage site for the beauty and uniqueness of its square houses in various shades of blue, from turquoise to ultramarine. A perfect fusion of Spanish and Arabic styles and full of places of interest such as the ancient medieval fortress of the Kasbah or the Spanish Grand Mosque Bouzafar, Chefchaouen also owes its uniqueness to the many cats that live there. All you have to do is look up and you will see them crouching on the landings or prowling the cobalt-coloured paths.
