Magico Cilento: five stops off the beaten track
Trentinara, the panoramic terrace of Cilento
It is one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Cilento, and this virtue says a lot about Trentinara, a village that looks out like a natural balcony over the Sele valley and the Gulf of Salerno, with a view that on clear days embraces the temples of Paestum, the Amalfi Coast and even the island of Capri.
The heart of the town is the small panoramic square, from which alleys and paths branch out among churches, shops and ancient palazzos, while the most evocative walk is the Via dell'Amore, an itinerary dedicated to the legend of the young lovers Isabella and Saul and ending at the rocky spur of the 'Preta 'ncatenata'. For those who love adventure, just a few minutes from the centre is Cilento in Volo, a spectacular zipline that allows you to fly over the valley hanging from a steel cable; for those who prefer hiking, on the other hand, there is no shortage of paths leading to Monte Vesole or the Solofrone waterfall. In summer, in addition to the Festa del Pane e della Civiltà Contadina (Bread and Farming Civilisation Festival), an experience not to be missed is the aperitif in the vineyard organised by the Tredaniele wine cellar, which offers sunset tastings between the rows of vines and views of the valley, while the sunset can be enjoyed while sipping a good local wine at the Caffetteria Polifemo. For dinner, you can choose between the refined cuisine of Villa Tredaniele, the seafood specialities of the Antiche Mura restaurant or the convivial atmosphere of the Paolino 848 wine bar.
