Here is where to discover the purple spectacle of lavender
Views from Castelletto d'Erro
We are in the south-western part of the province, in the Alto Monferrato of Acqui, on the ridge that divides the Bormida Valley from the Erro Valley, already very close to the Ligurian border, whose contaminations can be felt, in the architecture of the villages, in the flavours and even in the spoken accent. The small village of Castelletto d'Erro, just over 150 inhabitants perched on a hill, is an ideal starting point to admire the summer lavender blossoms. In fact, there are several vantage points here that are perfect for a spectacular photo opportunity. For example, the small church of Sant'Anna, much loved by the local faithful because it is here that, on the day of the patron saint's feast (the third Sunday in July), the statue of St Anne is carried in procession. Another vantage point from which to admire the purple fields is the 13th-century square tower that dominates the village, surrounded by some ruins of the ancient castle walls and circular stone turrets also created for military purposes. This tower is still today an excellent vantage point not only for the lavender, but also for admiring both the Ligurian Apennines and the Langhe, with the nearby Asti municipality of Roccaverano and its prized goat's cheese (robiola di Roccaverano), the Alessandria plain and in the distance Monviso and some peaks of Lombardy.
