Who has to use XFir and who still has a choice

Producers of hazardous waste registered with Rentri must use XFir (regardless of the number of employees or the sector to which they belong). However, producers of non-hazardous waste arising from industrial or craft processes, or from waste treatment, sludge from drinking water treatment and other water treatments, and from wastewater treatment, as well as waste from flue gas desulphurisation, may choose between paper and digital formats if they have up to ten employees. However, if these producers have more than ten employees, the XFir is also required for non-hazardous waste. In all other cases involving non-hazardous waste, the producer may choose between paper and digital formats. It is issued by the producer/holder of the waste or by the transporter at the request of the producer/holder. Local authorities, mountain communities and associations of local authorities that operate collection centres issue the XFir for both hazardous and non-hazardous waste leaving their premises.
