In March, he was found guilty of bribery and influence peddling (in the so-called Bismuth case) and sentenced to three years' imprisonment, including one year without parole, to be served with an electronic bracelet. In September, a second sentence was handed down: one year in prison for illegal campaign financing in 2012 (the Bygmalion scandal). His supporters cried political conspiracy and denounced the judges' obstinacy, while the former president continued to proclaim his innocence and appealed in court to overturn the sentences.
