Seven places where you can experience the full magic of music
Abruzzo. Abbazie Summer Festival: from the sea to the mountains, music echoes through the countryside
From the sea to the mountains, amidst breathtaking natural scenery, ancient architecture, the majestic peaks of the Gran Sasso and, above all, plenty of great music. This is what the eleventh edition of the Abbazie Summer Festival promises from early July. For a month, the Valle delle Abbazie, in the heart of Abruzzo, is transformed into a world-class stage, combining the charm of its villages with the energy of great international music. With over 30 events on the programme, ranging from jazz legends to young talents and world music, the festival celebrates the dialogue between generations. The Abbazie Summer Festival grew out of ‘Concerti delle Abbazie’, a festival spread across the Valle delle Abbazie route, linking the five Romanesque Benedictine abbeys of S. Giovanni ad Insulam, S. Maria di Ronzano, S. Salvatore a Canzano, S. Clemente a Guardia Vomano and S. Maria di Propezzano, with the main sites of cultural, historical and architectural heritage in the Vomano and Mavone valleys, in the province of Teramo. A route rich in nature, traditions and flavours that includes the wonderful villages of Castelbasso, Montone and Mutignano. In addition to its musical programme, Concerti delle Abbazie also promotes initiatives aimed at fostering emerging creativity through the Abbazie Jazz Contest and the Abbazie Jazz Orchestra. From 2024, with the Abbazie Jazz Digital Festival, a social inclusion project will begin, utilising the digital transition of musical activities and aimed primarily at socially marginalised groups in the region.
