Umbria. With Umbria Jazz, Perugia is once again the world capital of jazz

Perugia is once again set to become the jazz capital of the world from 3 to 12 July. Over the course of these nine days, the music is just half of the experience on offer in the Umbrian region. The other half consists of encounters in the medieval alleyways of the historic centre, in cutting-edge wine bars and amongst the hills dotted with rows of vines that surround the city and the other venues hosting this major international event. If you’re planning your getaway to Umbria Jazz, you must savour the festival step by step with all five senses, combining the fantastic live performances with the region’s finest food and wine experiences. Among the unmissable highlights is the Umbria Jazz concert on 8 July, an Italian exclusive featuring Snarky Puppy and the Metropole Orkest, performing in Italia for the very first time. With no fewer than seventy musicians on stage, it promises to be a unique event destined to go down in the festival’s history. Eleven years ago, they released ‘Sylva’, their first album together, followed a few months ago by their second album, ‘Somni’, recorded live over three nights (17–19 January 2025) in Utrecht. Now this extraordinary collaboration is coming to Italia, marking the Metropole Orkest’s very first appearance here. From music to painting: from 1 July, an extraordinary exhibition will grace the galleries of the National Gallery of Umbria, which is bringing to Perugia a loan from the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome: Vincent van Gogh’s *L’Arlesiana*.
