Between Rimini and Cesenatico ten adventures in the name of extravagance

At the avant-garde Woodpecker disco in Cervia

In Romagna, dancing is a verb that is conjugated daily. But only the Woodpecker Disco, which originally stood in the 1950s at the Terza Traversa in the centre of Milano Marittima and has now been moved to Cervia, can boast vintage-space architecture. In fact, it sports the shape of a ring, a globe containing a platform covered in yellow marble from the quarries of Siena. This fibreglass shell with a diameter of 16 metres is comparable to an umbrella subdivided into twenty-two segments, each of them with a double curvature, obtained by means of iron tubes covered by an aluminium cover: in the 1960s it was considered even too avant-garde even for Romagna. It was built by a caulking company, which assembled it in just two days. Recently, the shell on the outside has been decorated with works by the street artist Blu that produce a truly fascinating effect thanks also to the diffused light inside. Besides serving as a disco, it hosts multicultural events related to culture and gastronomy.
