Trails, hiking and snowshoeing to experience nature in Olympic destinations
Between Auronzo and Monte Piana, winter under the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
Cortina is about 30 km away, and to get there you have to cross the scenic Passo Tre Croci: above Auronzo di Cadore, next to the small church of Santa Caterina, a ring-route of about 5 kilometres with 250 metres of altitude difference starts, leading through beech and pine trees, offering glimpses of the lake and snow-capped Mount Tudaio. The route touches on Namos and Piana da Barco, among streams and small ice sculptures, in a cosy and little-travelled environment, ideal for a winter walk in silence. More extensive and solemn is the itinerary to Monte Piana, which leads from Lake Antorno along the military road to Rifugio Bosi and the summit plateau. With plenty of snow, this is a snowshoe paradise, and in about two hours you can reach the open-air museum of the Great War with a view encompassing the Three Peaks, Sorapis and Cristallo.
