Between delights and nature in the duchy of the Este family

A 70-kilometre route crosses the Este lands and is a perfect combination for trekking enthusiasts. It can be covered in three or more days. The route runs mainly on low-traffic roads and dirt country paths, following ancient canals in the Ferrara plain. From Porta Paola in Ferrara, the route continues towards Aguscello amidst lush local cultivations to Voghenza, where you can visit the Roman Necropolis and the Museum of Historical Modelling. An unmissable stop is the Este Delizia di Belriguardo, the ancient summer residence of the Este family and current Civic Museum, followed by the refined delizia del Verginese in Gambulaga. The journey continues to Ostellato, with its freshwater valleys and wildlife sanctuary, and then along the Gramigne Fosse canal to Strada Mezzano. Nearby, the archaeological area of the ancient Etruscan town of Spina precedes the arrival in the lagoon town of Comacchio.
