Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind)
As the founder of DeepMind and a Nobel laureate, Demis Hassabis has for years been one of the most influential voices in the debate on AI. Unlike other Silicon Valley executives, he has always emphasised the need to ensure that technological progress is accompanied by regulatory bodies and international governance mechanisms.
In recent months, he has proposed the creation of a US-led international body tasked with monitoring the most advanced models and, if necessary, coordinating a slowdown in the industry. Whilst not calling for an immediate pause, Hassabis believes that global oversight must keep pace with technological capabilities.
