From Sondrio to Livigno: Valtellina tells its Olympic soul in art

Teglio - Mostra VETTE Storie di sport e montagne

Valtellina is one of the most active territories of the Milan Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad with a busy calendar of exhibitions that explore the relationship between snow, sport, art and Alpine communities, offering a choral reading of the territory. In Sondrio, the MVSA - Museo Valtellinese di Storia e Arte, hosts until 3 May "Le nevi dell'altro anno", a journey through the representation of the snowy landscape in Italian art from the end of the 19th century to the present day, with works from museums, private collections and institutions. In Teglio, Palazzo Besta hosts until 30 August "Vette. Stories of sport and mountains": posters, Olympic memorabilia and ethnographic materials tell the story of sport as a historical and cultural phenomenon, capable of affecting the landscape and identity of mountain communities. The tour continues at Aprica, where the Ski and Mountain Museum, open all year round, showcases vintage skis and memorabilia of great champions such as Zeno Colò, tracing the technical and cultural evolution of the discipline. In Bormio, in the halls of Palazzo Simoni, the history of skiing and the great alpine exploits come to life through a rereading of the human and sporting side of winter disciplines, while moving to Livigno, there are two events not to be missed: the MUS! Museum of Livigno and Trepalle hosts temporary exhibitions that explore the transformation of the territory, while at the Aquagranda centre, the exhibition 'Tracce Bianche' (White Traces) pays tribute to the Valtellina athletes who were protagonists of the Olympics.
