Travelling in 2027: short breaks, more experiences and a focus on wellbeing
Gym-cation: the holiday that makes you feel better
For many travellers, going on holiday has become a way to recharge their batteries and restore balance to body and mind. The Skyscanner report highlights the rise of so-called ‘gym-cations’ – holidays where exercise and healthy habits influence the choice of destination and accommodation: 65 per cent of Millennials surveyed are more likely to book a hotel offering a nutritious breakfast, whilst nearly four in ten Gen Z travellers prioritise accommodation with a gym. Bangkok, Mumbai, New York, Phuket and Seoul are among the cities where users most frequently search for hotels offering this service. Hilton’s report confirms that 65 per cent of respondents are looking for experiences that promote relaxation of body and mind, and that 76 per cent see travel as a way to recharge mentally and physically in ways that are difficult to replicate in everyday life. Wellbeing, however, is not just about rest; it is also reflected in a concept of a holiday that is less detached from one’s daily routines: people therefore set off to change their surroundings, but also – and above all – to destinations and properties (such as the Hilton Conrad Orlando in Florida or the Hilton Quang Hanh Onsen Resort in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam) to feel better through relaxation, nature and outdoor wellness facilities.
