From Marina di Ravenna to Cattolica: the Riviera everyone likes in eight stages
In Cattolica among the lidos of the 'Queen of the Riviera'
Cattolica's beautiful beach is a must. It is famous for being the 'Queen of the Riviera', awarded the Blue Flag continuously since 1988 for the excellent quality of its water and services. Characterised by a crescent-shaped bay protected by Mount Gabicce, it offers fine sand, shallow waters ideal for families, and state-of-the-art beach facilities. But many people do not know that this town has ancient origins and is therefore worth visiting at any time of the year: in the area of the ancient castrum are treasures such as the Rocca Malatestiana, the churches of Sant'Apollinare and San Pio V, the former Pilgrims' Hospital with the Oratory of Santa Croce. The so-called "Ospitale per Pellegrini" (Pilgrims' Hospice), built at the end of the 16th century, now houses the Cattolica Queen's Museum. For over 20 years it has housed two sections: an archaeological one, with exhibits from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages, and an ethno-anthropological one, dedicated to the maritime history of the port city. Many events enliven Cattolica throughout the year. The next one is scheduled from Saturday 30 May to 2 June when visitors can take part in a journey into the past with Cattolica Retro, featuring vintage cars and motorbikes, vintage clothing and plenty of music, from soul to rock https://www.instagram.com/p/DXhiJ6PDvdh/?igsh=dm54aGYweXZhZ2xr&wa_logging_event=video_play_open. And if music will be the main theme of the Catholic summer, with many concerts at the Queen Arena, the appointment to mark in your diary is Modcast Goes Riviera (4-7 September), the event that celebrates British Mod culture in all its forms: music, fashion, art, cinema and lifestyle. The programme includes DJ sets with the masters of old school London clubbing, live music, talks, cabaret and performances, exhibitions of vintage film posters, an exhibition-market of vintage records and clothing, an exhibition of vintage Lambrettas and scooters and a pedalo race with the participation of the artists. For dinner, go to "Da Andrea": traditional cuisine in a poetic and evocative setting, typical Cattolica dishes and local flavours https://www.instagram.com/ristorantedaandrea/. For a 'sunset view' aperitif with your feet on the sand the place to be is Il Lamparino more elegant setting and excellent cocktails Al Mura.
