In search of rejuvenating breaks: nature, sports and traditions
In Valchiavenna among flower-filled pastures, rural architecture and waterfalls for all
It is one of the Alpine valleys of Lombardy that in winter welcomes the skiing public and in spring turns into an open-air natural laboratory, where the blooms set the pace. Giving colour to the pastures by creating carpets of pastel shades are the crocuses, lilac, white or yellow cup-shaped flowers, while higher up the landscape changes colour thanks to the rhododendrons. Valchiavenna is also synonymous with nature trails and one of these starts from the Bondeno woods and leads to a belvedere overlooking the Spluga Valley along a route that is also suitable for families. From the centre of Madesimo, on the other hand, you can reach the Andossi plateau, where you can walk along the Scalcoggia stream with a view of Pizzo Spadolazzo, while an experience not to be missed is to follow the themed routes suggested by the Spluga Valley Ecomuseum, which embrace the villages, traditions and rural architecture of the historic route of the same name linking Italia and Switzerland, including the characteristic "carden", ancient wooden warehouses that are symbols of Alpine culture. Finally, one of the valley's virtues is its inclusivity: suggestive and well-known attractions such as the Acquafraggia waterfalls are also accessible to wheelchairs, as is the Valchiavenna cycle path, a route of around 40 km that can also be used by hand bikes.
