Lombardy. Valchiavenna: waterfalls, astronomy and ancient routes

More secluded than Valtellina, Valchiavenna is a border region that offers plenty of opportunities to experience the mountains in a different way. In Piuro, for example, a must-see is the Acquaragia Waterfalls and the Archaeological Park, whilst other destinations to include in your itinerary are the hikes along the routes leading up to Pizzo Stella (where the famous Skyrace is held every year) and the Spluga Pass. Madesimo, on the other hand, is now one of Lombardy’s leading mountain biking hubs, offering both technical trails and scenic routes suitable for e-bikes, whilst also providing the chance to experience nature at a leisurely pace on the Andossi plateau or at Lago Azzurro. Water takes centre stage in the canyoning experiences, which allow you to explore gorges, waterfalls and ravines accompanied by qualified mountain guides and equipped with specialist technical gear: Val Bodengo is one of the leading destinations for this sport, with routes winding through unspoilt natural landscapes featuring natural slides and narrow gorges. Finally, in Valchiavenna too, space tourism is becoming increasingly popular, in historic sites such as the Marmitte dei Giganti above Chiavenna and at the Orbit-X Space Academy village, set up (until 16 August) at Ice Gate23024 in Madesimo, which offers workshops and installations for everyone.
