The Milan Stock Exchange recorded a significant drop (-6.8%) against a backdrop of great concern over the worsening European sovereign debt crisis, particularly the situation in Greece. Political uncertainties and the lack of concrete answers to the crisis fuelled investors' mistrust. Added to this were fears about the resilience of the European banking system and global economic growth, leading to a general wave of selling on stock markets. The strong correlation between the financial markets amplified the losses in Piazza Affari.
