10 October 2008: -7.14% - Lehman Crack

Piazza Affari suffered another heavy drop of 7.14% linked to the global financial crisis triggered by the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers the previous month. This was part of a particularly negative week for world markets, with significant losses on many European stock exchanges. In particular, the Milan Stock Exchange also recorded significant drops on 6 October (-8.24%) and 16 October (-6.78%). These declines were caused by the growing distrust in the international banking system and concerns about a global economic recession. The crisis originated in the US, mainly due to subprime mortgages, and quickly spread to Europe, hitting financial institutions and stock markets hard.
