The ten places where Puglia lights up for the holidays
A Guercino in the new Molfetta Civic Gallery
A Salvator Mundi by Guercino is on display until 26 December in the newly-opened Civic Gallery in Molfetta's Palazzo dell'Arte, della Cultura e del Turismo (Palace of Art, Culture and Tourism), in what used to be the headquarters of the Social Services, Taxes and Municipal Library. The Salvator Mundi by Guercino highlights all the expressive sensitivity and aesthetic grace of the brilliant 17th-century Italian artist. Works from the Neapolitan 19th century can also be admired in this recently opened exhibition space. In the Sala dei Templari (Templars' Hall) - overlooking the Adriatic Sea - there is a photographic exhibition Natale in Comune - Radici e Orizzonti (Christmas in the Municipality - Roots and Horizons), which iconographically narrates the symbolism and protagonists of town life in this seafaring microcosm that has its own protector in its 18-metre high polygonal lighthouse, active since 1857. You should also try u cùcl mudd, the soft focaccia of which Molfetta is very proud, perhaps at the Panificio Centrale. The link with music - Riccardo Muti grew up here - will manifest itself in the traditional New Year's Concert, scheduled in the Church of Sant'Achille, where the Pugliese Philharmonic Orchestra and the voices of the Luigi Capotorti Polyphonic Choir will perform. And you can stay at the Dogana Resort, in the former building that managed the rules of naval trade.
