The ten places where Puglia lights up for the holidays
Monopoli Christmas Park and its Luminous Nativity
The tradition of Apulian illuminations, usually experienced intensely during the summer, is enhanced in Monopoli within an authentic Christmas park covering an area of 15,000 square metres whose absolute protagonist is the 22-metre-high tree erected in the heart of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. Five-metre high swings and many other installations will also light up the seafront. The signature of this show called Illuminandia is Faniuolo Illuminazioni, a historic company from Putignano that has been transforming the region's squares into a colourful LED dream for a century and a half. Of course, the classic sound box cannot be missing, which becomes Christmasy for the occasion. While in Piazza Palmieri, the Cupola della Neve (Snow Dome) appears, a 15-metre-high monumental work: you can even lie on an ice island to admire a vault of dancing stars. Piazza Garibaldi is itself a protagonist with the six-metre-high work Natività Luminosa, created by master papier-mâché artist Domenico Galluzzi.
