The ten places where Puglia lights up for the holidays
In the Swabian Angevin Castle and the Port of Manfredonia
The Swabian Angevin Castle of Manfredonia was built first by Manfred, son of Frederick II of Swabia in the mid-13th century, and then by Charles of Anjou, who completed the construction of the manor and its walls. It now sports a quadrangular plan, while the cylindrical towers date back to the Aragonese period. The Archaeological Museum is housed inside, while inside the moat on 27 and 28 December there will be a historical re-enactment of the living nativity scene and it will be possible to taste the products of an ever-flourishing countryside. Above all, the Port is the protagonist of Christmas in the Marina, hosting a skating rink, Christmas markets, and a series of artistic light installations. The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Siponto, where the early Christian three-nave basilica with central apse and mosaic floor is flanked by an installation consisting of 4,500 metres of galvanised electro-welded mesh, with which Edoardo Tresoldi weaves an intense dialogue between archaeology and contemporary art.
