A break from the city to seven destinations in the French Alps
A terrace suspended amongst the clouds in Les Arcs
Heading up towards the Tarentaise (the Alpine valley in the Savoie department), you come to Les Arcs, a single large resort divided into six well-integrated areas, stretching from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Arc 2000. At the heart of sustainable summer transport is the historic funicular, which is completely free for train passengers and pedestrians, connecting the valley to Arc 1600 in just seven minutes. Certified as a B Corp for its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, the resort is set to offer over 150 kilometres of mountain bike trails and 200 kilometres of scenic hiking trails for summer 2026. The main new attraction of the season is the Transarc, a spectacular panoramic gondola leading to the ‘Minerals Gallery’ and the terrace suspended amongst the clouds, where visitors can admire the surrounding mountain ranges. Not to be missed, following the famous Vélo Vert cycling festival in June, is the Académie Festival de musique from 19 to 31 July – events that highlight the artistic and sporting vibrancy of this renowned Alpine resort.
