Serre Chevalier and the fortified town of Briançon

As the journey south draws to a close, just an hour and a half’s drive from Turin and three from Milan, you enter the stunning Serre Chevalier valley, crowned by the historic fortified town of Briançon, whose ramparts are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned as a pioneering laboratory for ecological transition thanks to its self-sufficient production of hydroelectric, solar and wind power, the valley welcomes tourists with lush summer scenery and over three hundred kilometres of trails. Among the unmissable new attractions for the current season are a new high-altitude adventure trail, complete with an 80-metre-long suspended walkway and giant slides, and guided electric scooter tours through the woods. Relaxation is guaranteed with the opening of the new ‘La Rotonde’ spa at the famous Grands Bains du Monêtier, whilst hospitality is revitalised with outstanding new venues such as the converted Caserne de Briançon and the historic Residence Club Serra Neva. Finally, major sporting and cultural events punctuate the summer in this welcoming Alpine gem.
