A break from the city to seven destinations in the French Alps

Chambéry and outdoor culture

Adobestock

A natural gateway to the Alps and a city with a deeply Savoyard spirit, Chambéry welcomes visitors by combining historical charm with a vibrant outdoor culture. Reachable in less than two hours from Turin thanks to direct rail links, the city reveals itself through its medieval alleyways and colourful façades, which recall its long shared history under the House of Savoy, which only came to an end in 1861. In the summer of 2026, the town will be transformed into a cyclist’s paradise: it will host the start of the seventeenth stage of the Tour de France on 22 July, offering an extensive network of cycle paths linking the town centre to the surrounding vineyards and lakes. Among the new hospitality offerings, the elegant La Maison des Ducs hotel, situated in the historic centre, and La Tour de Contrôle – the former airport control tower, reimagined as a designer venue with a panoramic restaurant – stand out. On the cultural front, the Museum of the Castle of the Dukes of Savoy has reopened following restoration and is open all year round, featuring spectacular interactive exhibits.
