Art, crafts and melodies in the heart of Bolzano

Bolzano experiences Christmas in every corner: the streets of the city centre, courtyards, squares and parks full of lights and decorations invite to a choral celebration that transforms the South Tyrolean capital into one of the most desirable destinations to experience Advent at 360 degrees. On 27 November at 5 p.m. in Piazza Walther, the beating heart of the most eagerly awaited market of the year, the inauguration ceremony kicks off with the switching on of the over 1300 lights of the large 'Wishing Tree' (20 metres high!) decorated once again this year with decorations reproducing the works created by children and young people in hospital care during the ceramics-therapy workshops offered by the Lene Thun Foundation. There will be 93 traditional wooden chalets overflowing with artistic handicrafts and gastronomic specialities. The route extends as far as the Capuchin Park, along Via Isarco, with a further 21 beautiful stalls that will welcome visitors and families among original handicrafts in a truly evocative atmosphere. For those who want to discover autochthonous wines, there is the Wine Lounge, while gourmets can embark on "Sparkling in the City", the tasty journey around Spumante Alto Adige DOC with 11 different stands to taste fine South Tyrolean sparkling wines paired with refined finger food. Ample space will be given to contemporary art with the usual project Angelus Loci - Bolzano City of Angels, which will bring to various points in the city site installations created by local artists who, choosing different materials and forms, will represent their own 'angel of the place'. Not to be missed are the concerts (more than 150 musical events) with the participation of folkloristic bands, city choirs and Advent in Music performances" during the weekends in Piazza Walther and those at the Haydn Auditorium and in the Dominican church. Finally, those who visit the Market can easily combine the magic of Christmas with the pleasure of a day on the snow, reaching two ski resorts in a short time: Obereggen and Corno del Renon.
