The most romantic Christmas in the Langhe Monferrato Roero markets
Piedmont is confirmed as the capital of European Christmas thanks to Magico Paese di Natale, the event promoted by the Associazione Generazione that for 19 years has transformed the Unesco hills of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato into a fairy-tale stage. The event has been crowned by European Best Destinations as the 'most romantic market in Europe' and for the 2025 edition it also enters the Top Ten of the best markets in the Old Continent. For those who live it up close, it is an immersive experience that combines tradition and scenery, shopping and entertainment: during the weekends until 21 December, Asti, Govone, San Damiano d'Asti and Santo Stefano Belbo become the protagonists of a unique Christmas itinerary whose underlying theme is 'Back to the roots', an invitation to rediscover authentic values and family warmth. In Asti, in particular, Piazza Alfieri is dressed up for the holidays with more than 130 small wooden houses (among the largest in Italy) where crafts, gastronomy and street food mingle with shows and entertainment. In Govone, around the Savoy Castle, the more theatrical and fairy-tale soul of the event comes to life, with Father Christmas's House, the Elf School, creative workshops and shows in the castle halls. San Damiano d'Asti, on the other hand, hosts the Living Crib with hundreds of figures in period costume, while Santo Stefano Belbo offers as a novelty the Christmas Fairy Tale, a themed village with workshops, old-fashioned games, songs and stories by the Cesare Pavese Foundation.
