Travelling to Advent locations on both sides of the Alps
South Tyrolean traditions and children's shows between Bressanone and Terento
children's shows between Bressanone and Terento
The 34th Brixen Christmas Market, one of the best-known and most renowned in South Tyrol for its exhibitors of local handicrafts and South Tyrolean specialities, opens on 27 November with a parade of angels, drummers and musicians along the cobbled streets leading to the Cathedral Square for the traditional cutting of the gingerbread. Until 6 January, the carillon in the White Tower will spread its melody over the rooftops of the city, while from 1 to 24 January, the Advent calendar at the Bauzanum will offer its own light show every night. Among the most eagerly awaited events, in addition to the St Nicholas parade (on 6 December), which will also climb the Plose to meet the children on skis, are the monumental videomapping projections (accompanied by music by Giorgio Moroder) on the baroque architecture of the Hofburg. A few kilometres from Bressanone, the small village of Terento, in the heart of the Rio Pusteria holiday area, is transformed into a Christmas village with warm lights, torches and the scent of cinnamon. The Advent ritual takes place on dedicated days between 7 and 28 December, with markets, workshops and activities for families and children, including mla Night of Fairy Tales and the Dance with Fire and alpaca walks to the torch-lit forest.
