Travelling to Advent locations on both sides of the Alps

Advent in the weeks leading up to Christmas brings with it the tradition of markets, a custom we imported from northern Europe but which is now more than customary here, often accompanied by a programme of cultural and food and wine events. It is an opportunity to discover or return to places that are enveloped in a special atmosphere, perhaps even going beyond national borders. Here are a few that, without including them all, may inspire you to take a trip out of town.
