At the Albertina for Modern Gothic and Lisette Model

The Albertina Museum can also flaunt its Soravia Wing, the 53-metre-long, aluminium wing-shaped outdoor canopy designed by Hans Hollein, which has projected into the 21st century the classical, baroque-style palace famous for its rich collection of graphic art, Dürer prints, paintings by Marc Chagall, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso. The entire collection assembled in 1776 by Duke Albert of Saxony Teschen, Empress Maria Theresa's son-in-law, is also exceptional for the sumptuousness of the rooms in which it is displayed in the palace inhabited by Empress Maria Theresa's favourite daughter, Archduchess Maria Christina. Until 11 January, moreover, the exhibition entitled Gothic Modern allows visitors to admire masterpieces that highlight the happy and fortunate encounter between the modernist and gothic styles that featured Arnold Böcklin, Edvard Munch, Max Beckmann and Otto Dix. On the other hand, the photographic retrospective on Lisette Model, an artist of Austrian origin who was able to depict American street and jazz people with even extreme rawness and veracity, will last until 22 February.
