At the Leopold for the Klimt brothers and the enigmatic Schiele

What did Gustav Klimt wear when he painted? What furniture made up his painting atelier? This and many other questions can be answered in the Vienna 1900 exhibition currently underway at the Leopold Museum, which explores the secrets of the extraordinary artistic and intellectual production that permeated the first decades of the 20th century in the Austrian capital. The fertility of Gustav's own association with his brother Ernst and with their third sodalist Koloman Moser is explored, as is Egon Schiele's mysterious, raw and powerful style of nudes and architecture. Oskar Kokoschka with his self-portraits and Christian Schad as a skilful observer of female details also continually capture the attention of visitors to the Leopold, along with interior design objects created at the dawn of the 20th century. This museum with its concrete capsule has contributed, together with the Mumok dedicated to modern art, to rejuvenating the architecture of the Museum Quarter where the Museum of Fine Arts (its café bar should definitely be tried) and the Museum of Natural History are unmissable giants of Viennese culture.
