Autumn tour of Lucania's cult places and experiences
The design of Vetera Matera and Elysium Spa
Inaugurated a few months ago, the Vetera Matera is the architectural jewel of the Sasso Barisano, one of the two historical city districts entirely inhabited until 1955. It brings together and unites 35 underground cisterns, caverns used in the past as popular dwellings and noble palaces in the highest part, creating minimalist environments embellished with plants, works of contemporary art, large mirrors and stone basins. In the various tuffaceous rooms, via staircases and secret openings, the Elysium Spa has taken shape, where one can devote oneself to treatments based on natural essences from the surrounding area for bodily well-being and baths in the niches-pools, a cellar excavated where a deconsecrated altar still stands, terraces and panoramic belvederes. Even the boutique seems to be housed in an authentic nave.
