On Timmari Hill for Molosso and Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson will be filming The Resurrection of Christ, so he is just now completing his reconnaissance in the Materano area. For those who loved the previous film The Passion, a visit to Timmari Hill is a must. Considered sacred, this truncated cone-shaped marine terrace in the Bradano valley, already inhabited by the Apuli people from the 6th century B.C., a presence also testified by a necropolis in which the king of Epirus Alexander I, known as Molosso, may have been buried, and covered by a thick holm oak and pine forest, houses the tuff church of the Santissimo Salvatore. It is rich in frescoes and ancient terracotta paving. In a glass niche above the altar, there is the crown of thorns, worn by Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, which Mel Gibson wished to donate to this place of worship where the actor and director used to gather in solitude. Then he would go to admire the San Giuliano Dam from above.
