Our Lady of the Pomegranate in the rock church

Considered the Sistine Chapel of Basilicata, this Benedictine rock cenoby, located on the grounds of the F.lli Dragone farm in Contrada Petrapenta on the Fondo Valle del Bradano provincial road, dates back to the Longobard period and is called the Crypt of Original Sin. Its frescoes, datable between the 8th and 9th centuries, tell stories on the walls and in the niches related to the triarchies of the Apostles, the Virgin Queen and the Archangels, and especially episodes from the Creation and Original Sin. Spectacular, at the Belvedere of Murgia Timone, are undoubtedly the Church of S. Agnese dating back to the Byzantine period in which the bright blue and yellow colours stand out, as well as the 15th-century Church of the Madonna delle Tre Porte carved into the rock in which a Deesis with Christ, the Virgin and St. John, and the Madonna of the Pomegranate, attributed to the Master of Miglionico, can be seen (open during visits with the Cea, the environmental education centre).
