The grape harvest in Friuli, an opportunity for educational tourism

Getting to know wine-making practices up close and picking grapes while learning the secrets that lie between the rows of vines: this is the opportunity that the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region offers wine enthusiasts in collaboration with a number of companies that are members of the Wine and Flavours Route. The programme is varied and includes cellar tours designed also for families with children and experiences aimed at true wine enthusiasts, with more technical focus on winemaking practices and the guided tasting of selected labels. Still other wineries focus on the convivial aspect, opening up the possibility for participants to take part in the classic working lunch of those who harvest the grapes. The grape-harvest itinerary touches all the provinces of Friuli, starting from Udine with stops in Manzano, Prepotto and Buttrio (for the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC) and then on to Tricesimo, Adegliacco and Cividale. In that of Pordenone one discovers the vines and traditions of Vivaro and Fontanafredda (with the Friuli Grave DOC) while in San Fiorano, in the province of Gorizia, the full immersion is in the historic vineyards of Collio and its DOC. In Scriò, off the 'official' grape-harvest route and at the foot of the Korada mountain complex, one can visit the La Ponca estate to taste the Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, Friulano, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Schioppettino labels that are born from this 65-million-year-old marl and sandstone soil from which the winery takes its name
