33 German tourists were killed in Hungary on 8 May 2003 when their double-decker bus was cut in two by a passenger train as it passed a level crossing.

The bus was crossing the tracks near Siofok, on the shores of Lake Balaton, about 100 kilometres south-west of Budapest.

The bus was carrying mostly elderly tourists from the northern states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein.
