In Tyrol to celebrate the Eagle Trail

The Adlerweg is an attraction with a capital 'a' for mountain enthusiasts: the Eagle Path is one of the most important long-distance trails for experienced hikers in Europe, offering impressive scenery of the scenic diversity of the Tyrol and Osttirol along its 426 km-long route from east to west, from St. Johann to St. Anton am Arlberg. There are 33 stages (the seventh leads to the highest point, the 2,848 metre-high Gradötzscharte) and 75 stops for refreshments and overnight stays. The name derives from the shape of the trail, which was reconfigured five years ago (in 2007, the trail network was expanded to 127 stages to connect the southern valleys of the Tyrol as well) and which evokes the silhouette of an eagle with spread wings. If you walk the entire route, you can enjoy extraordinary views of the walls of the Kaisergebirge massif, the Brandenberg and Lechtal Alps, the Karwendel and the Hohe Tauern. This year marks the 20th anniversary of this route and, with the arrival of summer, various special events are planned to mark the occasion, such as the 'Adlerweg Challenge' in St. Anton, which will award the winners with a specially made goodie-bag.
