DISTRETTO DEI LAGHI. Lago di Mergozzo e Montorfano (Archivio Fotografico Distretto Turistico dei Laghi)

The Distretto Turistico dei Laghi also offers various possibilities for those who see travelling as the pleasure of walking along scenic paths through forests and past medieval villages. The 'Via delle Genti' from Cannobio to Cannero Riviera (7.5 km) follows paved paths immersed in chestnut and oak trees and opens up to unique views of Lake Maggiore, touching on small hamlets such as Solivo, Molineggi and Carmine Superiore where time seems to stand still and leading to the spectacular panorama of the Castles of Cannero. Moving on to Lake Orta, a recommended itinerary is the 'Raggio d'Oro' ring route between Pettenasco and Legro (6 km), which ends in Legro, a picturesque hamlet of Orta San Giulio, known as the 'Painted Village' for its numerous murals inspired by films that have the lakes as their backdrop. No less evocative is the 3 km walk of the 'Sentiero Azzurro' along the lush green shores of Lake Mergozzo, leading to the village of Montorfano, on the slopes of the mountain of the same name famous for its white granite.
