The coats of arms of the cardinals: this is how the papabili present themselves to the world
Jean-Marc Aveline (1958), Archbishop of Marseilles
Motto: Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum (Thy will be done)
Scheme: An unfurled sailboat sails on a sea of six silver waves; in the blue sky shines a golden star with eight rays on the right, while on the left is the shield of Marseille.
Message: Aveline, therefore, proposes a Church founded on the Magisterium of Peter and on the faith of the patriarchs (the fisherman's boat, Noah's ark) and of Mary (the golden star and the motto with the Virgin Annunciate's response) and guided by the wind of the Holy Spirit; a Church that is an instrument of salvation offered to all men. With a personal reference to the Mediterranean, of which the Cardinal knows the two shores, the Algerian one where he was born and the French one of Marseilles where he has lived since childhood and where he now carries out his ministry.
