The sources of the Nitrodi Nymphs inside the wild canyon

Having passed the 550-metre-long aqueduct at Pilastri, built in the 17th century on the model of the Roman aqueducts, and circumventing the spectacular, endless Maronti Bay culminating in the islet of Sant'Angelo, we reach, as Adriano Celentano liked to do in the 1970s, the Fonte delle Ninfe Nitrodi (Nitrodi Nymphs' Spring) in the village of Buonopane. The Romans in the 1st century B.C. sensed the beneficial properties of these springs gushing from underground, also extolled in tablets now on display at the Archaeological Museum in Naples and the Hermitage in St Petersburg. These oligomineral waters can be drunk, but the truly regenerating ritual consists in staying for the whole day with the entire body under the flow of the waters that flow from mouths on the hill terraces among flowers, rosemary bushes and other aromatic plants. Herbs are also used in drinks served right in front of a sandstone canyon dotted with the wildest vegetation. One can also rub a clay and aloe mask on one's face. For the people of Ischia everyone is talking about a miraculous spring.
