Oslo in winter, emotions and experiences in the Nobel Peace Prize capital

2/10Great Journeys

Nobel Peace Center and City Hall, two iconic places

A journey of discovery of the city can start from the Nobel Peace Center, a museum structure open all year round (with around 200,000 visitors to its credit) that, if it lives its most important moment during the celebration of the award, is actually an attractive pole 12 months a year. The exhibition set up for the anniversary, built around shots of the Turkish photographer Emin Ozmen dedicated to Venezuela, will be open until September 2026 and changes each year in relation to the origins and country of origin of the winner (this year Maria Corina Machado). There are two highlights of the visit: the room lit by hundreds of light bulbs with photographs of all the Nobel Peace Prize winners and the room with the showcase containing the commemorative medal with Albert Nobel's effigy. The Prize also lives on in the majestic halls of City Hall, one of the nation's landmark buildings. Opened in 1950 and open to the public in almost all its areas, it is the venue for official receptions and its large murals tell and symbolise the nation's history and values. A visit here, especially if accompanied by a guide, is a small step into the Viking lifestyle and culture of the Norwegian people.
