Oslo in winter, emotions and experiences in the Nobel Peace Prize capital
The Olympic hill Holmenkollen, between forest and skiing history
It is one of the most scenic and impressive places in Oslo, and can be reached by a light train in about 25 minutes from the central station. The panoramic view from Holmenkollen Hill, especially in the summer, is incredible and feeds on the blue of the fjord and the green of the forest, with the roofs and buildings of the city in the middle. From here, kilometres of paths, cycle routes and (in the winter season) perfectly signposted cross-country skiing trails start off, to be tackled on your own or accompanied by "When in Norway" guides for an educational experience in the forest. A visit to the National Ski Arena, a well-equipped facility for Nordic skiing enthusiasts (there is also the more than 100-year-old museum of Norwegian skiing history) is a must to admire the majestic Olympic ski jump, from the top of which (reachable by lift) you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city and its surroundings. A few more kilometres uphill is the valley station of the Skimore ski resort, a favourite after-work destination for many Oslo residents, thanks to the fact that it can be reached from the city centre in less than half an hour by car or in 45 minutes by public bus.
