The Rose Castle, art for human rights
An attraction not to be missed, once on Holmenkollen Hill, is the Rose Castle, an open-air installation dedicated to the theme of democracy, freedom of expression and human rights. Designed by the famous Norwegian artists Vebjørn and Eimund Sand and inaugurated in 2020, it was included by Time Magazine in "The World's 100 Greatest Places" list and brings together around 300 works including monumental paintings, sculptures and installations that tell the stories and events of countries subjected to totalitarian regimes (five golden constellations symbolise, for example, the five years of Nazi occupation of Norway during World War II). And if the day's visit is marked by cold, fog and rain, a stop at the visitor centre to enjoy waffles and hot coffee is a must.
