SPAIN - Total solar eclipse - 12 August

The Basque Country (Spain) will host this event on 12 August, with Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz and San Sebastián as the main observation points.

The total solar eclipse of 12 August 2026 will occur at sunset and will have a maximum duration of totality of 2 minutes and 18 seconds. The trajectory of the shadow will enter the Atlantic, cross the Iberian Peninsula, from southwest to northeast, and then continue towards Turkey, Russia, and the Arctic.

In Italy the eclipse will only be visible in partial form, with the sun obscured by about 74% at sunset.
