UNITED STATES - The centenary of Route 66 - 3 November

Centenary celebration of the historic highway. The centenary of Route 66 will be celebrated in the United States: the epicentre of the celebrations of the historic Mother Road is Oklahoma. The centenary of Route 66 will be celebrated on 11 November 2026.

Route 66 is a historic US highway that connects Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, passing through eight states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Also known as 'The Mother Road' or 'The Main Street of America', it is famous for its role in the imagery of the American 'road trip' and stories of migration and opportunity during the Great Depression. Although no longer part of the federal highway system, today it is renamed 'Historic Route 66' and remains a popular tourist destination for its nostalgic atmosphere and vintage attractions.
