Sounds of the Dolomites and the festivals that bring culture to the mountains

Summer in Trentino is also a journey through culture, with festivals that transform mountain pastures, mountain huts and alpine villages into meeting places for artists, writers and the public. The best-known and most representative of these is ‘I Suoni delle Dolomiti’, which celebrates its 31st edition from 24 August to 3 October. Each concert venue can be reached on foot, following routes of varying difficulty, in a format that has been combining natural stages with singer-songwriter music for over thirty years. Among the most eagerly awaited events are the dawn concert on 2 September on Sass Pordoi, accessible via the ski lifts which will be open exceptionally from 4 am, the three-day musical trek to the Pale di San Martino (7–9 September), during which the audience and artists share the journey and spend the night in a mountain refuge, and ‘Musica Verticale’, a new event for 2026 in Val di Fassa, which brings together great mountaineers and musicians. Enriching the summer programme is ‘Il Mistero dei Monti’, the cultural festival in Madonna di Campiglio (running until 9 August), which features events dedicated to mountaineering, literature and journalism (with guests including Nello Scavo, Paola Caridi and Ginevra Bompiani), alternating between talks, cultural treks and musical events. Finally, throughout August, the Pale di San Martino will once again become a literary salon with the programme for “Dolomitincontri”, a historic event that has been bringing various leading figures from contemporary culture to the valley for forty years.
