Val di Fassa: where the mountains meet the tourism of the future

Val di Fassa Pista Ciclabile. (Federico Modica)

A valley with a strong, incredibly strong identity, from its Ladin roots to its most iconic peaks (the Marmolada) and its world-famous experiences (the Sellaronda). And then there are events, wellness, gastronomy and the opportunity to try new things (digital detox and soft mobility) without compromising its Alpine character. Val di Fassa continues to refresh its offering, and summer 2026 brought cycling and walking enthusiasts the completion of the Fiemme and Fassa cycle and footpath: almost 50 kilometres along the River Avisio, linking the two valleys through woods, small villages and nature reserves. Another major new feature this summer is the new 3S Campitello–Col Rodella cable car, which is also accessible to bikes, paragliders and sports equipment. Hiking remains at the heart of the holiday experience in Val di Fassa, as confirmed by the extensive network of lifts leading to the summits of Buffaure, Ciampac, Belvedere and Ciampedìe. With the guided outings “My First Via Ferrata’ organised by the CAI, even beginners can tackle the Crepa Neigra via ferrata, whilst the new Sentiero del Corvo Blu – an artistic trail inspired by Ladin legends – and the revamped ‘In the Footsteps of Ciampy’ nature trail, designed for families, are suitable for everyone. Finally, a new feature is the presence of Val di Fassa rangers to support guests and visitors; they have been on duty since this year on the main Dolomite passes and along the most popular trails to share and explain the spirit of these places. For those who love to combine wellbeing with outdoor activities, an interesting experience is offered by the Rifugio Contrin with its “Digital Detox Retreat”, a programme that alternates forest bathing, walks and moments of meditation (including a silent dinner at the foot of the Marmolada) to experience the mountains by slowing down and connecting with nature. One of the most eagerly awaited events, however, is the night of 12 August for the partial solar eclipse, for which the Carezza ski lifts are scheduled to remain open in the evening.
