Trento and its surroundings to discover in seven stages
The paths to Monte Bondone
Trento stands at the bottom of the Adige valley, in a position that for centuries has made it a natural place of passage and meeting. The city lies between the river and the mountains that surround and protect it: Monte Bondone, Paganella, Marzola and Calisio to the east. Looking westwards, the profile of Monte Bondone almost constantly accompanies the view of the city. Often referred to as 'Trento's alpe', it is a daily presence for residents and a natural recreational space for walks, outings and winter activities. Following the road up through the woods and scenic bends, one quickly moves from the urban environment to a completely different dimension. Viote del Bondone opens up a wide basin surrounded by rounded peaks, where there is the Alpine Botanical Garden, dedicated to high-altitude flora, and several paths leading towards the Three Peaks of Bondone: Cornetto, Dos d'Abramo and Cima Verde. During the winter, the Viote turns into an area dedicated to cross-country skiing and snow activities, while the area of Vason and the other Bondone localities offers downhill slopes and trails for snowshoeing. For the city, Bondone is in fact a natural extension, easily accessible even for a few hours.
