Bobbio: from medieval tournaments to great cinema under the stars

Nestled in the picturesque Trebbia Valley, Bobbio is a destination renowned for its Gobbo Bridge and the abbey founded by Saint Colomban. Following the Palio delle Contrade – a historic competition in which athletes from the town’s five districts, each identified by their own colours and banners, compete in contests of skill to win the coveted banner – later in the summer, from 31 July to 9 August, the cultural calendar features the Bobbio Film Festival, a film festival conceived by director Marco Bellocchio. Art-house films are screened in the picturesque cloister of San Colombano, followed by discussions with directors and actors, thus combining the historic beauty of the village with a passion for contemporary cinema.
