Italia on Stage: two months of entertainment in town squares from north to south
Montone: from arthouse cinema to historical military re-enactments
Perched on the hills of the Upper Tiber Valley, Montone is a remarkably harmonious Umbrian village, historically linked to the figure of the condottiero Braccio Fortebraccio. From 15 to 19 July, the village hosts the Umbria Film Festival, an independent film festival founded with the support of director Terry Gilliam, which attracts filmmakers and film enthusiasts in an informal and international atmosphere. Subsequently, from 9 to 16 August, the village takes on a different atmosphere for the Historical Re-enactment of the Santa Spina, a week in which the three historic districts compete in proclamations, scenes of medieval life and archery contests to win the palio. Strolling within the fortified walls, visitors can admire significant monuments such as the Church of San Francesco and savour traditional Umbrian dishes, discovering a place where contemporary culture engages in a constant dialogue with medieval heritage.
