Honda Vfr1200F Dct (2012)
The Honda Vfr1200F, a model introduced in 2009, was one of the most technologically advanced motorbikes of its time. In 2012 it was equipped - the first large-displacement motorbike in the world - with a double-clutch transmission (Dct), a technology borrowed from the automotive sector and precisely adapted to two-wheelers. At its heart was a mighty 1,237 cc V4 engine, derived directly from Honda's MotoGP experience, capable of delivering smooth yet vigorous power with a distinctive sound. The Vfr1200F was born to redefine the concept of sport-touring: granturismo comfort, sporty performance and absolute mechanical refinement. The Dct system allowed quick gear changes without torque interruptions, with both automatic and sequential mode via handlebar paddles. The aluminium frame, inertia joint drive shaft and adjustable suspension completed an outstanding technical package. However, despite its cutting-edge engineering, the Vfr1200F was not as successful as hoped: its unconventional design and high weight limited its appeal. However, it remains a milestone in the history of motorbike transmission, paving the way for the widespread use of Dct throughout Honda's adventure and touring range.
